Anne of Green Gables (赤毛のアン, Red-haired Anne) is an animated television series, part of Nippon Animation’s World Masterpiece Theater. It was adapted from the novel, Anne of Green Gables, by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Produced by Nippon Animation in 1979, it was first broadcast on Fuji TV from January 7, 1979 to December 30, 1979. Fifty episodes were produced in total.
For farmers on Prince Edward Island at the end of the 19th century, the world should be simple; with enough manpower, you can till the soil and trade the results for the goods you need to live. If you don’t have the strength to farm, get more helpers. But what if the world is more complex? Anne, a mischievous orphan girl, dreams of a world where she can make a difference. An aging pair of siblings realizes that they cannot get by on their own. When their worlds collide, they discover that life in utopia is anything but ordinary, as long as you have enough imagination…
